    Celebrating leading macular disease researchers

Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia hosts the Macular Disease Foundation Australia’s Research Awards at Admiralty House, Sydney.

This week, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC awarded new research grants on behalf of Macular Disease Foundation Australia (MDFA) at a special event hosted at Admiralty House.

As part of our 2025 Research Grant Program, MDFA is investing more than $1 million in eight groundbreaking projects. This brings our total research funding to $6.9 million across 42 projects since the program launched in 2011.

Led by some of Australia’s top researchers, these new projects aim to:

    • Discover new treatments for macular disease
    • Reduce the burden of vision loss
    • Protect future generations from its impact

We congratulate the successful researchers and extend our sincere thanks to the MDFA Community Review Panel, External Peer Reviewers and Research Grants Panel, whose insights were invaluable during the selection process.

These projects have the potential to change lives – not just in Australia, but around the world.
