This MDFA webinar is presented by Dr Alexis Ceecee Britten-Jones and covers diagnosis and management of inherited retinal diseases. This will include discussion on the clinical features associated with common macular dystrophies, how to differentiate inherited retinal diseases from other macular diseases and how genetic testing strategies vary for rare and common macular dystrophies.
About the presenter
Alexis Ceecee Britten-Jones is a clinician-researcher at the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences and a Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre for Eye Research Australia. Her current research foci are investigating the genetic and phenotypic characteristics of inherited retinal diseases and developing outcome measures for gene therapy clinical trials. Ceecee completed her Bachelor of Optometry at the University of Auckland, where she graduated with First Class Honours and was awarded both a Senior Scholar Award and a Dean’s Medal. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the University of Melbourne. Her PhD research evaluated changes in corneal nerves in diabetic neuropathy and clinical applications of omega-3 fatty acids for improving peripheral nerve health in diabetes. She also practices at the Australian College of Optometry and was recently awarded the 2023 Optometry Victoria/South Australia Rising Star in Optometry award.
