In an Australia-first community initiative, a mobile screening unit, known as the Vision Van, will travel over 14,000 kilometres around regional Australia, visiting those at risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
For 90 days, this 7.3 metre long Winnebago, equipped with state-of-the-art optometry facilities, will offer free screening for age-related macular degeneration to people aged 50 years and over.
A qualified optometrist will be on board to perform macula checks in just 15 minutes.
Approximately 2,000 eyes will be screened in the Vision Van, which has the potential to make thousands of Australians more aware of age-related macular degeneration and the importance of regular macula checks.
