Your donation is helping fund vital research into macular disease
Lorin Nicholson was declared legally blind at the age of four, and only has five per cent vision today. But that hasn’t stopped him. He’s an award-winning musician, best-selling author, inspiring motivational speaker, experienced health professional and record-smashing long-distance cyclist.
Although Lorin (pictured at the top of the page with his son, Tom) is living his best life with low vision, ground-breaking research maintains his hope of being able to see. Please send a kind gift before June 30 to help fund vital work that gives hope to people like Lorin.
Lorin has retinitis pigmentosa – a genetic condition that affects the cells at the back of the eye. Even though Lorin is living his best life with low vision, he says he would love the opportunity to see. Research holds the key to that hope.
“The only thing that stops this kind of breakthrough is just the funding for those amazing scientists and researchers that say, ‘Look, we’ve got an idea, we just don’t have the funding to be able to research it’.”
Your donations make MDFA the largest non-government source of macular disease research funding in Australia. This year marks the 10th anniversary of our Research Grants Program, and together we have invested $5.1 million in world-class Australian researchers that give hope to people like Lorin.
Would you please consider sending a gift before June 30 to celebrate a decade of macular disease research funding?
Lorin has won awards for his musical talents on the guitar, authored a best-selling memoir about his life, cycled 4100 kilometres from Perth to Sydney, and climbed a mountain recently with his youngest son Tom (pictured at the top of this page). But even a powerhouse like Lorin needs to reach out for help sometimes.
